East Lyme special meeting scheduled for appropriations vote

East Lyme — The town will hold a special town meeting today for a vote on three appropriations totaling nearly $1.4 million.

The first item is a special appropriation to continue construction on the new streetscape on Main Street in downtown Niantic. Anna Johnson, the finance director, said the state awarded the town a $400,000 Small Town Economic Assistance Program grant for the third phase of the project, which includes new sidewalks, brick work, granite curbs, trees and street lights.

"It's not something we included in our budget so we need to go through the appropriations process so we can legally spend it," she said Tuesday.

The town is also seeking to appropriate $754,670 as part of the equipment acquisition plan to continue to purchase various vehicles for the Public Works and Police departments, as well as $234,045 so the Board of Education can buy computers, Johnson said.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the upper meeting room at Town Hall.
