    YMCA Means Something To Everyone

Being at the Y means a lot of different things for young and old, parents and grandparents – even school administrators. It might mean going to Yoga classes, playing racquetball, taking a jump in the pool, or working out in the fitness center, among other things. For a lot of people it means a trip to 201 Spencer Plains in Westbrook – where the Valley-Shore YMCA is located. It meant that until the other day when circumstance pointed out that it means so much more.

When asked by a parent on a snowy afternoon where their child was located one of our school’s principals said quickly, “[he] is at the Y” – meaning he is safe and sound with fellow peers attending the After School Program held right there on school grounds. What the parent thought he meant was her child went to the Y in Westbrook and she proceeded to go and pick up her child there. Come to find out her trip was for naught – her son what just down the hall, right there at school playing safely with his friends and school mates in the café.

The Valley-Shore YMCA hosts over 200 students at 8 different schools. Our School Age Program brings being “at the Y” a whole new meaning everyday of the week during the school year. You are welcomed to come find out what it means to be “at the Y” for yourself. We may find it closer to you than you think!

The Valley-Shore YMCA’s School Age Program provides quality care in areas schools following the school calendar. The core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are modeled by our staff as they care for your children in as safe, state licensed program. Each day we provide homework assistance, physical activity, group and individual games, arts and crafts and a healthy snack complete with milk or juice. Full day coverage is provided on most single-day holidays, and vacation weeks.

For additional information on hours, school locations and fees, please call Kathy Scholl at 860-399-9622 ext 118 or www.vsymca.org – or even better yet… visit us “AT THE Y!”
