Brit wit: Eddie Izzard at MGM Grand at Foxwoods

You know Dos Equis' Most Interesting Man in the World character?

The real-life version would be Eddie Izzard - and not because he drinks Mexican beer. Izzard, who performs Friday in the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods as part of his Force Majeure world tour, is principally known for his standup comedy. But, jeez, this dude is perpetually engaged in all manners of challenges, activisim, creative projects - as well as intriguing pursuits undertaken solely to satisfy his own intellectual curiosity.

Consider: in 2009, with only five weeks of training, Izzard ran 43 marathons in 51 days to raise money for the global Sport Relief charity. He speaks several languages. He's a tireless pro-European Union campaigner. He's suggesting he's going to run for mayor of London. Oh, and his arts resume, beyond his headliner comic status, includes high-quality stints in theater, film and television.

What to expect at the MGM Grand? Screamingly funny stream-of-consciousness observations and stories and his beloved "and anyway" verbal tic that signifies a return to topic after yet another wonderful and bizarre tangent.

    - RICK KOSTER

Eddie Izzard, 9 p.m. Friday, MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods, $45-$65; 1-800-200-2882, foxwoods.com.
