Police: Man on bicycle robs elderly man in New London

New London — A Waterford man riding a bicycle allegedly stole money and identification from an elderly man Friday afternoon, police said.

Two teenagers helped police find the alleged robber, police said.

Ronald Hart, 30, of 9 Woodlawn Drive was charged with third-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and simple trespass.

At 3:45 p.m., a police officer on patrol saw a man chasing Hart, who was on a bicycle, near the intersection of Huntington Street and Broad Street.

The victim, a 78-year-old man, told police that Hart had stolen all of his money and identification cards.

In a press release, police said two teenagers told the officer they had seen Hart riding his bike in between houses on Cottage Street. Police checked the area and saw Hart walk out from between the houses.

Police said Hart was stopped without incident and arrested. He was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
