Waterford —In separate incidents, police arrested two men who they say burglarized local businesses early this morning.

William Stanley, 38, of Danbury, was arrested after police said he led them on a brief police pursuit. Police said he allegedly stole items from Dean's Auto on Bloomingdale Road.

When police attempted to pull Stanley's vehicle over, he drove to Colman Street in New London and back to Boston Post Road in Waterford before he abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot. The incident happened around 3:08 a.m.

Police arrested Stanley and charged him with reckless driving, disobeying an officer's signal, third-degree burglary and fifth-degree larceny.

He is being held on a $25,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in New London Superior Court.

In a separate incident, police said they responded to Supreme Pizza on Boston Post Road for a report of a burglary. A canine search of the area did not yield any results. As police continued to investigate, police found a man, later identified as Jeffrey Neilan, who matched the description of the burglar. The burglary was reported at about 4:40 a.m.

Neilan, 40, of 47 Granite St., Apt. 1, New London, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. Police said more charges may follow.

Neilan is being held on a $100,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in New London Superior Court. He has several pending warrants out for him in other jurisdictions, police said.
