Mortgage activity up in Connecticut

Mortgage activity in New England hit the highest level seen in the past five years during 2012.

"In Connecticut, all mortgage activity rose more than 26 percent in 2012," according to The Warren Group, publisher of The Commercial Record.

Last year's mortgage numbers of 141,759 in Connecticut compared with 111,850 in the previous year. It was the highest number since 2007, when 192,278 mortgages were issued in the state.

Purchase mortgages in Connecticut increased by 13.5 percent, while refinances had a bump of 30 percent. Massachusetts showed the strongest activity last year, jumping by 38 percent.
