Davis-Standard confirms layoffs

Pawcatuck manufacturer Davis-Standard confirmed Wednesday that it laid off about a dozen workers earlier in the week as part of a global restructuring.

The company, which makes specialized extruding equipment, said the layoffs had occurred among professional staff. The reductions were at sites worldwide and come about a year after Davis-Standard's purchase by the Toronto-based investment firm ONCAP.

The company said it has been hiring as well, and that the elimination of an electrical-panel assembly shop last year led to 30 job shifts but no layoffs.
