    Sun could host both tourneys

Mohegan — Will Mohegan Sun become among the nation's home offices for college basketball next season?

Casino officials, who made an official offer for the 2014 American Athletic Conference's women's basketball tournament earlier this week, are making inquiries into playing host to the AAC men's conference tournament too, Sun sources said Friday.

The AAC is the name of UConn's new league for next season.

The sources said Mohegan has already alerted league officials of their interest and would have a formal offer early next week.

Casino officials remained optimistic Friday about landing the women's tournament.

A source within the AAC said Mohegan is a "serious contender" for both.

Louisville and North Carolina will be among the teams to play at Mohegan Sun in November during an early-season tournament. Mohegan, home to the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, will also play host to the state high school finals.

Las Vegas and Atlantic City have played host to conference tournaments in the past. The Pac-12 tournament became the fourth conference tournament to be played in Las Vegas this past season and third on a casino property.

The Pac-12 played at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, located inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Hotel. The West Coast Conference and Western Athletic Conference played their tournaments at the Orleans Arena, located inside the Orleans Hotel.

The Mountain West Conference tournament commenced at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
