    Ledyard brush fire under investigation

Ledyard — Ledyard police have joined the fire marshal in the investigation of a brush fire Sunday that police say may have been intentionally set.

The fire was reported at 1:12 p.m. in a wooded area off Captain Amos Stanton Road. Ledyard and Gales Ferry fire departments, along with brush fire units from the Old Mystic, Center Groton, North Stonington and Mohegan Fire Company responded.

The fire was brought under control and the damage limited to the wooded area, according to Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein. Finkelstein said evidence recovered at the scene indicates the fire was “not accidental.”

Anyone with information about the fire is urged to contact the Ledyard Police Department at 860-464-6400 or the Ledyard Fire Marshal at 860-464-6858.
