Republicans are really fiscal hawk pretenders

I find it fascinating that the National Republican Party advertises itself as a "fiscal hawk." The generally accepted best measure of debt seriousness is the ratio of debt as a percent of GDP.

Seven presidents since World War II, before President Obama, reduced this measure during their times. The three that didn't were Presidents Reagan and the two President Bushes.

The Bushes also gave us two unfunded wars and an unaffordable tax cut. (The Iraq war probably should never even have happened.)

The "fiscal hawks" also peddled a study by two Harvard professors about the seriousness of the "Debt Red Line," proven wrong by a University of Massachusetts graduate student.

Where are the real fiscal hawks?
