ECC softball championship back on, rescheduled for Sunday

Griswold – After canceling the championship game and declaring co-champions earlier this morning, it was announced the Eastern Connecticut Conference softball tournament championship game will be in fact made up at 5 p.m. Sunday at Griswold High School.

No. 2 East Lyme (20-2) will meet No. 4 Waterford (17-5), with the two having shared the ECC Large Division title during the regular season.

Waterford, the four-time defending tournament champ, defeated No. 5 Fitch (1-0) and No. 1 Stonington (6-0) to reach the final. East Lyme topped No. 7 St. Bernard (7-0) and No. 3 Griswold (6-5).

The Griswold game was suspended Thursday with the score tied 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, forcing that game to be completed Friday. That postponed the championship game from Friday to today before today's postponement was forced due to rain.

ECC all-stars and sportsmanship award winners will be honored at 4:30 p.m.
