Six people injured in Preston head-on collision

Preston - Six people were taken to the William W. Backus Hospital this morning after a head-on collision between a car and sports utility vehicle on Route 165.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. near the intersection of Raddler Road.

Preston City Fire Chief Tom Casey said first-responders had to extricate the one person who was in the car and that the five people in the SUV were able to get out on their own. He said three people required advanced life support services while the other three required basic life support services.

    Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Because of the large number of patients, additional ambulances from the Poquetanuck Fire Department, American Ambulance and Griswold Fire Department were called to the scene.

    State police are investigating.
