Local roundup: NL opens District 10 tourney with a victory

Colchester - New London defeated Colchester 10-3 behind the combined pitching of Elijah Martinez, Shaun Cambisca and Brandon Beck on opening night of the District 10 Little League (11-12) baseball tournament.

The teams played the only game of the night in the tournament due to rain.

Martinez had 3 RBI, while going 3-for-3, and struck out 13 batters. Cambisca had 2 RBI, reaching base twice. Cole Potts was able to reach base all four times at bat.

American Legion Zone VI

• Avery Barlow had three hits, including a double and a home run, as Waterford beat Tri-Town 6-2. Adam Goss pitched the win for Waterford (10-5).

SEC Babe Ruth 16-18

• Devin McCall had two hits and three runs as Tri-County III beat Ledyard Sunday 12-1 in six innings. Matt McElwee had two hits, including a double, for Ledyard.

Tigers rained out

• The Connecticut Tigers game at the Lowell Spinners Monday was postponed and rescheduled as a doubleheader today. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. and both games will be seven innings.
