Police: Man threatened to kill woman and her boyfriend

    Joel M. Davis

Norwich — Police responded to a Hickory Street residence shortly after midnight Wednesday after a woman in the home reported that a man had threatened to kill her and her boyfriend.

As police investigated the threat, the man, later identified as Joel M. Davis, attempted to divert their attention by calling 911 and reporting a shooting at a different location in the city, said Sgt. Patrick Mickens.

Mickens said police quickly determined it was a false report.

He said for the victims’ safety, their address and names are being withheld.

Mickens said that Davis was later found in Groton Town. Police there arrested him and found a loaded rifle and two knives in his car, which they seized.

Davis, 26, of no certain address, was charged with second-degree threatening, first-degree harassment, weapons in a motor vehicle, second-degree making a false report, misuse of 911 and breach of peace.

He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond pending his arraignment Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court.
