Nautilus, submarine museum reopen on Mondays

Groton — The Historic Ship Nautilus and Submarine Force Library and Museum will reopen on Mondays because the furloughs for civilians who work for the Department of Defense were reduced.

The Defense Department furloughed most of its civilian personnel because automatic spending cuts, known as sequestration, took effect March 1. The Nautilus and the museum closed on Mondays, in addition to its routine closures on Tuesdays, starting the week of July 8.

The Pentagon recently cut the number of furlough days from 11 to 6. The Nautilus and the museum will reopen on Mondays starting the week of Aug. 18. Both will be closed on Tuesdays as normal.

All of the museums that fall within the Naval History and Heritage Command closed for a day each week because of the furloughs.
