Car crashes into home in New London

New London — A city woman and a young boy were transported to the hospital Thursday night after the woman's Nissan Sentra crashed into the front of a three-story house at 182 Vauxhall St.

The accident was reported at 7:56 p.m., according to a police press release. The car jumped a granite curb and mowed down several shrubs before crashing through the front wall and window of the three-family home.

The car's hood was lodged in the living room of the ground-floor apartment, according to the release. An official from the city's building department condemned the building until the structural integrity of the building can be evaluated and the car removed, police said.

The driver, 23-year-old Fabiola Belidor of 13 Manwaring St., was charged with driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Belidor and the young boy were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for observation and treatment of minor injuries, police said. No one was home at the time of the accident, and there were no other reported injuries.

The Vauxhall Street accident was the second report of a car into a building Thursday. Earlier in the day, police responded to a report of a car that had hit a house at 490 Pequot Ave. The car had been parked on a somewhat steep incline and the emergency brake had not been engaged, police said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the 3:37 p.m. incident, which caused slight damage to the house's siding and wood framing, police said.
