    Stonington fire leaves two injured

Mystic - Two people were taken to the hospital from the scene of a fire at 10 Meadowbrook Lane late Wednesday night, according to Stonington Police Chief J. Darren Stewart.

Stewart said police and fire officials are trying to piece together what happened at the scene.

The fire was not under control as of 11:45 p.m.

Stewart said police officers have responded to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital to collect information and continue their investigation. Police detectives and the town fire marshal are also at the scene.

A neighbor who lives across the street said he saw a man - a resident of the burning house - unconscious on the lawn. He was taken away by ambulance, the witness said.

The neighbor also said a couple lives upstairs in the two-family home, and a woman lives downstairs. The man from upstairs was the one lying on the lawn, he said.

The call was reported about 10:50 p.m.
