Car damages Ledyard pizza shop storefront

Emergency personnel are at Valentino's Restaurant, where a car earlier this evening hit and damaged the restaurant's exterior. The restaurant is at 725 Colonel Ledyard Highway.

Ledyard – A woman was taken to the hospital for an unknown medical condition Friday night after driving into the front entrance of Valentino's Restaurant at 725 Colonel Ledyard Highway.

No injuries were reported in the 5:56 p.m. accident and the Mazda 6 appeared to have sustained very little damage. The force of the impact, however, damaged a portion of the restaurant's brick façade.

Police said the building official was called to the scene and determined there was no structural damage to the restaurant, which remained open Friday evening.

One witness said the driver involved in the crash entered the restaurant, ordered a roast beef grinder and told staff about the accident before vomiting.

Police later identified the driver as 70-year-old Geraldine McGoonan, who was taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
