UPDATED: Grenade discovered in Groton woods not explosive, police say
Groton – Police and fire departments from Groton and the Naval Submarine Base responded to Georgia Street on Tuesday for reports of a grenade in the woods.
Groton Town Police said several children discovered the grenade in the woods behind 98 Georgia St. Emergency personnel responded to the area at about 5:40 p.m. and evacuated several homes as a precaution.
Groton Town police called on the state police bomb squad, who later determined the grenade did not contain an explosive charge.
