Malloy: 10 more state workers suspected of fraud

Hartford (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says 10 more state workers are suspected of fraudulently receiving federal food stamp benefits after the remnants of Hurricane Irene hit Connecticut in August.

Malloy said Tuesday that the Department of Social Services and Office of Labor Relations have forwarded the names of 10 state employees to various agency chiefs to begin administrative reviews. That brings to 44 the number of state employees suspected of fraud.

The governor said that aside from the 44 workers who have been referred for review, 29 others have been cleared of wrongdoing.

Malloy said that since he announced the investigation Dec. 4, officials have uncovered dozens of cases where it appears state employees may have lied on federal disaster assistance applications to receive benefits.
