Pet fair Sunday offers vendors, parade and a chance to adopt

Norwich - More than two dozen dogs from at least two dog rescue organizations will be available for adoption at the second pet fair at the Norwichtown Pet Resort on Scotland Road Sunday.

The pet resort ran its first pet fair in June and raised more than $3,000 for Angels Among Us Animal Rescue and also received more than 20 applications for dogs available for adoption at that time, kennel manager Nancy Cartwright said.

The pet fair will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 763 Scotland Road facility, rain or shine. The event will feature vendors offering products for pets or humans, face painting for children, a raffle, apple bobbing and a dog parade.

Admission is free. Donations of gently used pet supplies, including collars, leashes, bedding and toys will be accepted.

Angels Among Us Animal Rescue will bring approximately 25 dogs of various breeds, sizes and ages available for adoption. Labs 4 Rescue also will participate and will have dogs at the fair.

Interested families can meet the animals and fill out applications to adopt specific dogs. But they cannot take the dogs home with them that day, as applications will have to be screened.

Proceeds will benefit Angels Among Us Animal Rescue, a nonprofit volunteer group based in Brighton, Tenn., and its New England chapter. The organization rescues dogs from a high-kill shelter in Tennessee and educates the public on the importance of spaying and neutering pets to reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs.

Most of the dogs available for adoption are over 6 months old and have been spayed or neutered. The animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, have been dewormed, tested for heartworm and treated if positive, and are current on heartworm prevention medication.
