Infant allegedly shaken by father dies

    Adam Browne

New London – A 2-month-old boy who was flown Friday to Yale-New Haven Hospital after his father allegedly shook him has died, according to police.

According to police, the state attorney general's office will file additional charges for the death.

The baby was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital early Friday and then transferred to New Haven, where he was listed in critical condition that night, police said. L+M had reported that the baby had sustained "bilateral hemorrhaging to the brain."

The baby died Saturday, Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said.

Twenty-four-year-old Adam M. Browne called 911 from his 48 Crystal Ave. apartment at 2:30 a.m. Friday to report that his son was limp and not breathing. While a dispatcher walked Browne through emergency medical procedures, the fire department sent personnel and later transported the baby to the hospital.

After Browne's alleged admission that "he shook the victim and caused the injuries," according to the police report, he was charged with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor, arraigned in New London Superior Court, and ordered held in lieu of a $500,000 bond. As of Friday, Browne remained in prison on a suicide watch as well as a medical and mental health watch.
