VNA home health aides vote to join AFT Connecticut
Waterford — Home health aides at the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut voted “overwhelmingly” to join AFT Connecticut, the union that also represents VNA nurses as well as nurses, technicians and other workers at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, the union announced Friday evening.
The VNA and L+M are both part of the same parent corporation. Twenty-six home health aides were eligible to vote.
Results of the vote are unofficial until they are certified by the National Labor Relations Board. Once certified, contract negotiations would be scheduled.
During the organizing effort, the union filed two unfair labor practice charges against the VNA. The National Labor Relations Board has not yet decided on the charges. The VNA administration denies it violated workers’ rights.
