Monte Cristo Bookshop welcomes Bradley Spinelli

Kudos to Brooklyn writer Bradley Spinelli, whose website impressively hypes his novel "Killing Williamsburg" by using favorable quotes from major publishing house big shots who nonetheless REJECTED the manuscript.

It goes to show you how incredibly competitive the business is - and how even work that resonates with professionals is no guarantee of anything.

Fortunately, "Killing Williamsburg" landed a home with a hip New York City artists collective called Le Chat Noir - and the positive review in Publishers Weekly is further proof of the work's appeal. When a grotesque suicide epidemic hits the hipster enclave of a Brooklyn neighborhood, a cynical Gen-Xer called Benson assembles a crew to clean up the trail of corpses and halt the parade of despair.

Spinelli will discuss and sign copies of "Killing Williamsburg" Friday in New London's Monte Cristo Bookshop.

Bradley Spinelli, 7 p.m. Friday, Monte Cristo Bookshop, 38 Green St., New London; free, signed copies $12; (860) 608-5902,
