Light Parade to honor WWII Pearl Harbor Veteran as Grand Marshal

East Lyme — The East Lyme Light Parade Committee has named 92-year-old World War II Pearl Harbor Veteran and town resident Floyd Welch as the Grand Marshal for Saturday’s 25th Annual Light Parade in honor of the 72nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

Welch and the Connecticut National Guard will lead the parade down Niantic’s Main Street. Fireworks at 6:30 p.m. Saturday will launch the parade. Seven shots of single white fireworks at the beginning of the display will honor the fallen from Pearl Harbor.

A submarine ice sculpture will pay tribute to the men and women in the armed forces for their sacrifices for freedom, the committee said.

In addition, a “Fill A Float” will again collect non-perishable food items and the East Lyme High School is sponsoring a float collecting “Toys for Tots.”
