Coast Guard Band to hold annual holiday concert

New London — The U.S. Coast Guard Band presents its annual holiday concerts celebrating the joy and musical traditions of the season at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 in Leamy Concert Hall at the Coast Guard Academy.

The band's assistant director, Chief Warrant Officer Richard E. Wyman, leads an upbeat, family-friendly matinee performance. The more traditional evening program of carols will be conducted by the band's director, Lt. Cmdr. Adam Williamson.

The afternoon program features music from Russia, Africa, Mexico and the United States, including “La Virgen de La Macarena,” “Polonaise,” “O Hanukkah,” “Kilimanjaro: An African Portrait,” “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.”

The evening program features popular carols and songs of the season, including the classic, “Adeste Fidelis,” and a trio of carols from around the globe. The band will also perform the “Nutcracker Suite,” “Christmas Waltz,” “What Child is This,” and a jazzy rendition of “Silver Bells.” The audience will be asked to join in a traditional Holiday Sing-Along.

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. The academy, at 15 Mohegan Ave., is handicapped-accessible. All visitors to the academy must present a valid state-issued photo ID. For more information, visit or call (860) 701-6826.
