Fire at vacant Norwich home ruled an arson
Norwich — The town's police and fire departments are investigating an arson fire Saturday in an unoccupied dwelling on Salem Turnpike.
At 4:38 p.m., the East Great Plain Fire Department and Norwich Police Department responded to a reported structure fire at 346 Salem Turnpike. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire within the vacant dwelling, according to a police news release.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, but it resulted in moderate damage to the structure, police said. There were no reported injuries.
After an investigation, the Norwich fire marshal ruled that the fire was incendiary.
The Norwich Police Department and an accelerant detection K-9 team from the state police fire marshal's office aided the investigation. The Bozrah Fire Department and Mohegan Tribal FAST Team also responded for mutual aid.
