Strong leadership needed for NL schools

It has been a true honor to serve the children, citizens, and school employees of New London for 10 years as a member of the New London Board of Education. I have worked with many highly qualified board members and will always treasure this chapter of my life. For three years I had the distinct privilege of being secretary of the board.

The school system is embarking on a crucial time. New London will be going to an all-magnet district. This will open the doors to high levels of success.

The district will also have a new superintendent. There must be a strong search committee in place. The new superintendent who takes over must be someone who has urban experience and can rally the teachers and students to continue the momentum that the school district has made over the past two years. Additionally, the leader must be a hands-on superintendent; a person who visits classrooms and is an advocate for change. The new chief of staff must be strong in the area of curriculum. There have and will continue to be changes in curriculum and standards. Finally, the new leader must be someone who can build good community relationships.
