Many helped build the Nautilus

The Nautilus is having an anniversary and is honored by the Nautilus Museum in Groton.

There are probably many residents in the area who helped construct the first submarine with atomic power. The electrical drive components were made in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by the Large Motor-Generator Division of General Electric. I was employed there in that era.

GE had several plant locations in Fort Wayne. Sadly, it was just announced that the last plant was being closed. There used to be thousands of workers and it was the areas largest employer. This incident is a common occurrence in many parts of the country. Some of those components that I saw then are nearby.
