Stonington - Taylor Lavallie had 15 points as ninth-seeded Montville defeated No. 8 Stonington, 52-48, in the first round of the Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' basketball tournament on Saturday.

The Indians (11-10) will play top-seeded Norwich Free Academy in Monday's quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. at Plainfield High School.

Jamie Hill added 13 points and Cassidy Bundy 12 for Montville. Margot Calmar had 29 points and 19 rebounds for Stonington (13-8).

In other games:

• No. 5 Waterford jumped out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and cruised past No. 12 Plainfield, 42-31. Vanessa Kobyluck scored 10 points and Kazi Walker added eight, including two 3-pointers, for the Lancers (12-9), who play No. 4 St. Bernard in Monday's quarterfinals at Plainfield (7 p.m.)

• Caitlyn Dittman had 19 points to lead No. 4 St. Bernard past No. 13 Lyman Memorial, 53-38. The two teams had split their regular season meetings with each winning by two points. Casey Sullivan scored 13 and Kaitlyn Berkel had 12 points for the Saints (17-4).

• Jenna Schumacher had 10 points and 13 rebounds as No. 6 East Lyme bounced No. 11 Tourtellotte, 49-29. Theresa Durkee scored 10 and Carynn Bartolucci added six rebounds, six assists and four points for East Lyme (13-7), which will play No. 3 New London at Ledyard (5:30 p.m).

H.S. wrestling

• Matt Foster placed third at 106 pounds at the Class LL tournament for NFA, which placed 12th with 78.5 points.

Khaleed Exum-Strong finished fourth at 182 pounds for the Wildcats and and Jahill Bryant was sixth at 152.

Newtown (213 points) won the team title, denying defending champion Danbury its 16th title in 18 years. Xavier (207) was second and Danbury (200.5) third.

• Fitch's Jordan Kenyon lost an 8-2 decision to top-seeded Cody Carrillo of Middletown in the 182 pound final at the Class L tournament. Billy Goff placed fifth (160) for Fitch, which finished 19th (44 points). New Milford won the team title (215.5).

Boys' basketball

• Collin Sawyer scored 29 as New London used a big fourth quarter to put away Hyde of New Haven, 80-59. New London outscored the Howling Wolves 24-7 in the final quarter. Landon Peabody had 17 points and 10 assists for New London (17-3) and Josh Maynard added 12 points.

• Hartford University outscored Norwich Tech 43-15 in the second half, pulling away for a 77-35 win in the Constitution State Conference. Mack Osias scored 10 for Norwich Tech (9-9).

Girls' basketball

• Jen Dawson had 20 points as No. 2 Morgan downed No. 7 Old Lyme, 60-33, in the Shoreline Conference quarterfinals. Mary Cate Devlin had eight points for Old Lyme (11-10).

Fencing

• NFA won the boys and girls foil while Fitch won the boys' epee title and tied St. Bernard for the girls' epee championship at the ECC tournament. The top four in each discipline were honored with All-ECC status. Angelica Rayment (NFA) won the girls' foil, followed by Angeline Adamski (East Lyme), Abigail Wichael (NFA) and Soraya Colon-Milan (New London). Matt Chan (East Lyme) was the boys' foil champion. Reuben Deglin (NFA), Matt Benjamin (Bacon), and Corey Jones (Fitch) placed second-fourth, respectively. Quinn Duwelius (Ledyard) won the girls' epee, followed by Patricia Steinhagen (St. Bernard), Liz Zamarka (East Lyme), and Cassie Meehan (St. Bernard). Ian Serneth (Bacon) was the boys' epee champion. Micah Greenleaf (Waterford), Nick Nado (Fitch) and Peter Yachovetsky (St. Bernard) finished second-fourth, respectively.

Cheerleading

• Fitch won the Large Division, Killingly the Medium and St. Bernard the Small during the ECC Championships at Waterford. Fitch was followed by Ledyard and Woodstock Academy in the Large, Waterford was second and Montville third in the Medium, and Wheeler was second and Tourtellotte third in the Small.

Boys' swimming

• Daniel Clark won both the 200 and 400 freestyle for Waterford in its 95-91 loss to Windham/RHAM/Coventry in Friday's ECC meet. Matthew Patton added a win in the diving competition for Waterford (2-10, 2-10).
