January Youth of the Month: Jayson Tung

The Exchange Club of Madison has honored Jayson Tung, son of Jennifer and Thomas Tung, with the David Bell Scholarship Award for its January 2014 Youth of the Month Award. The Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty and completed a very competitive application, including 1) an essay titled "Parading the Spirit of Community Service with Passion and Commitment"; 2) performing outstanding DHHS and community activities; 3) attaining an excellent grade-point average; and 4) demonstrating personal achievements and awards.

David Bell, chairman of the Youth of the Month and Year Programs, presented Tung with a $200 award and a commemorative Madison Exchange Club plaque. He is a high honors student, National Merit Scholar, Junior Classical League State and National Latin Exam Summa Cum Laude, and Brandeis Book Award recipient.

Tung has received a number of music awards and plays the clarinet in the DHHS Band and in concerts. Co-president of the DHHS Exchange Excel Club, Tung is active on the DHHS Math Team, Computer Club, Game Club, and fencing team. Next year he plans to continue his education at one of five leading universities: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, or Northeastern.
