One sound forecast: Weather will change

The Yankee idiom "If you don't like the weather today, just wait till tomorrow" is by no means a 21st Century New England proclamation. Actually, all regions in the U.S. have made similar claims since the birth of the Union, except maybe Southern California and Key West.

Weather change is not a modern anomaly. Consider the Medieval Warm Period (950 to 1250) and the so-called Little Ice Age (1550 to 1850). You may have forgotten, but the Blizzard of 1978 absolutely proved the effects of global cooling.

Climate change, a man-made phenomenon? Reality check, go visit Dinosaur Park in Rock Hill. Doubtful those beasts had much of a causative influence on the change from their tropical environments to the weather we enjoy here today.

If climate change is not a foregone conclusion, why in the world do we have any use for the Weather Channel? Even Ben Franklin found it necessary to publish a new version of "Poor Richard's Almanac" year after year. "Yes Virginia, there is climate change - always has been, always will be."
