Police: Norwich man drives car into bar after getting kicked out

Norwich - A man upset about being kicked out of a Norwich bar retaliated by driving into the wall of the bar Sunday, police said.

Richard Blonshine, 53, of 30 Alice St. was charged with first-degree criminal mischief for the damage he inflicted on Silvio Cafe on Stonington Road. The charge indicates damages in excess of $1,500.

Blonshine was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, interfering with an officer, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breech of peace.

After driving his car into the cafe, Blonshine "took off," according to police Sgt. Ed Peckham.

Peckham said police ultimately found Blonshine at his residence, where he was combative toward officers.

The sergeant said no one was injured when Blonshine crashed into the cafe, though people were inside the building at the time of the incident. He described the damage as "moderate."
