Writer recalls a friend and how we used to be

A resounding "Here, here!" for frequent letter writer, William Ezell.

I served with Lt. Ezell aboard the USS McNair (DD-679) during the winter and spring of 1952 and 1953 in waters off of North Korea. They didn't want us there. We didn't leave. We were dedicated to preserve the freedoms and hopes of all those in a free country. Compare North Korea to South Korea today!

The presidential "leadership" today, coming from an office once looked at with respect and principle, is disgraceful. We are represented to the world by a person disgracefully interested in taking a "selfie" picture, while attending the funeral of Nelson Mandela.

Yeah! You're correct! I'm old enough to remember Kate Smith and her rendition of "God Bless America." And I'll have to admit, after all these years, I still get a little "dust" in my eye when I hear her.
