UConn suspends sorority, frat in hazing probe

Storrs (AP) — The University of Connecticut has temporarily suspended a sorority and a fraternity and barred them from hosting or participating in activities while school officials review an alleged hazing incident.

UConn officials notified the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity of the temporary suspensions Monday.

UConn sophomore and Kappa Kappa Gamma member Hillary Holt says she was forced to drink alcohol to the point of passing out last Thursday at Sigma Alpha Epsilon's off-campus fraternity house. She says she woke up in a hospital and was told her blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the driving limit of 0.08.

Officials with the national chapters of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sigma Alpha Epsilon say the organizations don't condone hazing and are looking into the incident.
