Aquarium seeks donations to bring fur seal to Mystic

Mystic - Mystic Aquarium is trying to raise more than $15,000 to move a female Northern fur seal from a rehabilitation center in California to its new home in the aquarium's Pacific Northwest Exhibit.

The aquarium said Ziggy Star was found emaciated and barely alive last April on a California beach. She was brought to the The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito where she underwent months of care. She was also diagnosed with a neurologic condition that affects her ability to process images correctly and coordinate her movements. The aquarium said the condition would not allow her to survive in the wild.

The began working with the center to find a home for Ziggy Star where she could live with other fur seals and receive the care she requires. At the aquarium she will join seven harbor seals and two male northern fur seals.

The $15,000 will also help provide care for Ziggy Star. Donations are tax deductible and can be made at
