New London — An unidentified man remained hospitalized in serious condition Monday following an assault late Sunday, police said.

Police say they responded to the area of Belden Street and Belden Court around 8:23 p.m. and found a male victim with trauma to his head and neck. The victim was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses at the scene told police that all parties involved in the assault knew each other. Police said the attack was not a random act of violence but declined any further comment on the pending investigation.
