Riding to his final resting place in Poquonnock Bridge

Jim Cherenzia of Side Hill Farm in Hopkinton, R.I., drives his team of Percheron draft horses, Grant and Ledge, to convey the casket of John E. Ackley Jr. from the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church to the nearby Smith Lake Cemetery. Ackley died last week at the age of 83. In addition to the horse-drawn conveyance, he was laid to rest Monday with full military honors in the small private cemetery in Groton. Ackley's family asked for the hay wagon and that Cherenzia not dress up in his usual jacket and top hat in keeping with the family's farming history in town.
