Vendors flock to home show in Groton

Groton - As interest in building buds during early spring, the final regional home show gets underway this weekend at the Mystic Marriott.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut and the Builders and Remodelers Association of Eastern Connecticut are collaborating for the second year on Eastern Connecticut's Premier Home Show. One hundred and 30 vendors will display their home-related products and services during the show.

The show will feature WTNH-TV news anchor Ann Nyberg from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, and Russ Antiques and Auctions of Waterford providing free antique appraisals. In addition, the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut will sponsor "Let's Get Building," a program that gives kids a chance to play the part of a builder.

The Home Depot: Kids Workshop will add another dimension to the show, allowing children to build their own projects while mom and dad check out vendor offerings.

Children also will get a chance to meet the Easter Bunny, who will hop along the display aisles.

"The home show is an opportunity for builders, remodelers and providers of interior and exterior home products and services to display the many talents and superior services they offer in a 'Buy Local' atmosphere," the chamber said in a release.

Estimated crowds last year at the home show were nearly 5,000.

Two other home shows previously have been held in the region, one at Foxwoods Resort Casino and another at Connecticut College. The show this weekend previously had been under the sponsorship of the local builders association at the Mohegan Sun.
