Slot machines malfunction at Mohegan Sun

Mohegan — A technical malfunction affecting hundreds of slot machines at Mohegan Sun complicated matters for patrons seeking to cash out late Wednesday afternoon, casino officials said.

The problem, which appeared to be computer related, prevented the machines from printing out tickets, or credits, said Bobby Soper, Mohegan Sun’s president and chief executive officer. In such instances, which Soper said occur “from time to time,” slots players need to have attendants write out tickets that cashiers redeem.

The malfunction affected machines in sections of the Casino of the Earth, according to Soper, who said 10 percent to 15 percent of Mohegan Sun’s 5,500 slots were down temporarily.

At 6 p.m., affected machines in the vicinity of the Wolf Den were encircled by yellow tape.

The Day received a report of problems with slot machines at the casino shortly before 4:30 p.m.
