Robert Morse Bowker, 82, Old Saybrook

Robert Morse Bowker of Old Saybrook passed away May 2. He was born on Christmas Day, 1932. He was predeceased by his parents Lewis Lyman Bowker and Elizabeth Morse Bowker of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 59 years G. Jeane (Fiske) Bowker, and his sons Robert M., Bruce S., Paul R., and Lewis L. He also leaves behind 5 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 3 daughters-in-law, and 1 grandson-in-law.

“Bob” began his career in land surveying as an apprentice for W.T Moore & Co. at the age of 17. He later moved to Old Saybrook and worked for Radcliffe Engineering Inc. He became a certified land surveyor in both Massachusetts and Connecticut, and eventually started his own business, Bowker Surveying and Mapping Co. In the latter part of his career, he worked as a surveyor for the Connecticut State Dept. of Environmental Protection for approximately 20 years, where he remained until his retirement at age 65.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, canoeing, fishing, rooting for the UCONN women’s basketball team, antiquing, gardening, and socializing with his breakfast friends at Pat’s Country Kitchen and Rio Café in Old Saybrook. Bob’s zest for life, optimism, and boundless sense of humor will be missed by all.

A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Robert Bowker’s memory to the Old Saybrook Ambulance Association, the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley, or the Old Saybrook Police Department.
