Apostle to preside at Latter-day Saint Conference in Mystic

Mystic — Members of the public are invited to hear Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, a member of The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, speak at a conference from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday at the Church on 1230 Flanders Road.

Elder Holland’s visit will include instruction and messages to leaders and members of the Church. In addition, Elder Holland will visit with religious leaders of other faiths during his stay, according to a news release.

“It has been 14 years since we have had a visit here by an Apostle, twelve men who have a unique calling to be special witnesses of Christ in all the world,” said Richard S. Hutchins, the president of the Providence, R.I. Stake, in a statement. “For members of the church to be taught in person by Elder Holland represents a very rare and wonderful opportunity.”

Nine months ago, the Church also held a groundbreaking for the Hartford Temple, which will be completed within two years.

Overflow parking for the conference will be at the Groton Public School administration building at 1300 Flanders Road in Mystic.
