H.S. lacrosse roundup: Still unbeaten, Stonington girls clinch a tie for title

Montville - Emily Cassata scored five goals, Jenny Sieczkiewicz four and each added an assist in Stonington High School's 16-3 victory over Montville in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division girls' lacrosse matchup Thursday, clinching at least a tie for the division title for Stonington.

The defending Small Division champion, Stonington is 14-0 overall, 8-0 in the ECC Small and can clinch the title outright with a win at home Tuesday against St. Bernard.

Val Muller added two goals for Stonington. Emily Kewer, Tamara Viellette and Allyson Foster scored one goal each for Montville (4-9, 2-6).

In other games:

• Hannah Long scored eight goals as Norwich Free Academy beat Fitch 16-15 in overtime in the ECC Large Division. Kathryn Grace had three goals and Sam Trombley had two goals and an assist for NFA (6-7, 4-2). Daria McKenna and Jackie Kokomoor had four goals each, Michelina Pinto had three goals and an assist and Vineela Kanagala scored twice for Fitch (6-7-1, 3-4).

• Grace Mayeda scored three goals and had three assists as St. Bernard beat Wheeler 13-6 in the ECC Small Division. Shannon Amarello had four goals, Nancy Kuhn scored twice and Shannon Foley made 11 saves for St. Bernard (6-5-1, 3-5). Jess Muller had four goals and Zoe Robert scored twice for Wheeler (0-12, 0-8).

• Ellie Phetteplace and Brooke Scahill scored three goals apiece as Ledyard edged Waterford 8-6 in the ECC Small Division. Liz Austin and Cassidy Jenkins also scored for the Colonels (9-4, 6-2). Mackenzie Griffith-Potter scored twice for Waterford (7-5, 5-3).

• Allie Buckley scored five goals and had 12 assists as Old Lyme beat Valley Regional 21-7 in the Shoreline Conference. Sloane Sweitzer had five goals and two assists, Sydney Cowell had four goals and two assists and Alston Rountree scored three times for Old Lyme.


• Nick LoBianco scored two goals and had three assists as Ledyard beat Waterford 7-6, clinching at least a share of the ECC Small Division title. Alec Powell had two goals and two assists, Nick Lauer scored twice and Paul Bossardet made 14 saves for Ledyard (11-2, 7-0). Michael Beltran scored six goals and Taylor Huta made 10 saves for Waterford (4-10, 3-4).

• Henry Hunt scored five goals and had two assists, leading Old Lyme to a 13-10 win over Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Ian Humphreys and Eric Behringer scored three goals each, Seth Rohrberg made 11 saves and Jacob Fenton had two goals and four assists for Old Lyme (10-2).
