Urban's great job on concussion law

The citizens of Stonington and North Stonington should know what an outstanding legislator they have representing them in Hartford. Myself and two other moms had the pleasure of meeting Rep. Diana Urban over a year ago. We have sons who have had life changing concussions and we were interested in updating an outdated youth concussion law, first passed in 2009. As the co-chair of the Children's Committee, she welcomed a meeting. She worked very hard to fully comprehend the issues and understand our law's deficits. Urban agreed to champion this important legislation and became passionate about it, as she has for other bills relating to children.

Previous to this experience, I had no idea how much work went into passing a bill. There were meetings with stakeholders, lobbyists, other legislators, a public hearing, language revisions, committee votes, the vote in the House, then, finally, the Senate. Each step took a great deal of effort. By educating other legislators on the issues, Urban gained consensus among Republicans and Democrats, the House and Senate.

This important legislation passed with unanimous support. Urban worked with integrity, commitment and tenacity.

I have the utmost respect for her. The 43rd District is very fortunate to have her representing them.
