NL Democrats endorse Hewett for sixth term
Democrats in the 39th District endorsed incumbent state Rep. Ernest Hewett of New London for a sixth term at their nominating convention Tuesday night.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the people of New London,” Hewett said. “I can’t think of any other place in the state I would rather serve than the city of New London. We’re the city too tough to die.”
Hewett, who has lived in New London for 40 years, is a former city councilor and ceremonial mayor of the city. He currently serves as a member of the General Assembly’s appropriations, judiciary and legislative management committees.
No other Democrats challenged Hewett for the endorsement.
So far, the New London Republican Town Committee has not found a candidate to challenge Hewett for the 39th District seat. The district represents New London.
