State police say their investigation into the 2006 beating death of Anthony Hamlin is “very active” and that several agencies will conduct a search Wednesday morning at the Ledyard site where Hamlin’s body was recovered.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy recently increased the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case to $50,000 at the request of New London State’s Attorney Michael L. Regan, and investigators are hoping to generate new leads.

State police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance issued a press release Tuesday saying detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, New London Cold Case Squad, FBI and others will search the area off Shewville Road where his body was recovered starting at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Hamlin, a 40-year-old father of five from Groton and a member of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation, was last seen near Union Station in downtown New London, where he planned to catch a train to Virginia, on the night of Jan. 27, 2006. His battered body was discovered the next morning in a field adjacent to 448 Shewville Road in Ledyard at about 8:30 a.m. He died from blunt trauma to the head, and his killer or killers left him face down and naked in a former horse pasture.

His family has waited eight years for news of an arrest. His mother, Darlene Hamlin, said Tuesday evening that she wasn’t aware of the search but was happy to hear of it.

“I hope to God they get this solved,” she said. Her son’s death has torn apart the family and Darlene Hamlin said she has been frustrated by the lack of information from investigators.

“Last night I was tossing and turning all night long,” she said. “I couldn’t sleep. I thought, Oh my God, I can’t stand it anymore. Somebody talk to me.”
