Norwich — A new president for Three Rivers Community College is expected to be named this morning by the Board of Regents for Higher Education.

The board will meet at 8 a.m. in Hartford to hear recommendations from the Regents Search Committee for new presidents for Three Rivers, Quinebaug Valley and Asnuntuck community colleges. The board is expected to vote on the three selections following the search committee report.

Two candidates have been in the running for the Three Rivers position to succeed Grace Jones, who will retire at the end of June.

Mitchell College President Mary Ellen Jukoski, who will retire from that school at the end of June, and Dale Allen, vice president for community engagement at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, Mass., visited Three Rivers on separate tours in early May. A third finalist for the Three Rivers position withdrew from contention.

Jukoski is the sixth president of Mitchell College. She served as dean of Mitchell College from 1990 to 1995 and was appointed acting president on July 1, 1994. Following a national search, the board of trustees appointed her president on March 1, 1995.

Allen is a 20-year veteran of higher education in Massachusetts. Since February 2013, Allen has served as a special assistant to the Massachusetts commissioner of higher education, on loan from Quinsigamond three days a week. In that role, he has worked on developing career pathways for students in eight two-year and four-year colleges.

Jones said Thursday she has not been part of the search process and does not know who the recommended candidate will be. Jones praised the selection process as “completely ethical,” and as transparent as possible. The two candidates met in open sessions with faculty, students and members of the public during their tours of the campus.

Jones said Three Rivers is ready for new leadership to face new challenges, and she is ready to embark on the retirement she originally announced a year ago. While Quinebaug and Asnuntuck have been operating with interim presidents since the retirements of their former presidents, Jones agreed to remain in her position until a successor took office.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Jones said. “The college is looking forward to it.”
