New London — Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio will attend the 2014 White House LGBT Pride Month Reception later this month.

Finizio, along with and his husband, Todd A. Ledbetter, were invited by President Barack Obama and will travel to the June 30 event at personal expense, the mayor’s office said.

“Todd and I are again honored to represent New London at the White House Pride reception, and I thank the President for his invitation,” Finizio said.

Finizio and Ledbetter attended the same event last year when New London was honored for its progressive stance on LGBTQ rights.

“It is such an honor for New London, and especially for the broader New London LGBTQ community, to receive this national recognition,” Ledbetter, who is on the board of OutCT, said. “New London is a diverse and welcoming city. I am so proud to be from New London.”
