Montville to hold town meeting on Maynard Road abandonment

Montville – The Town Council has scheduled a town meeting for 6 p.m. on July 8 at Town Hall where residents can vote on a resolution that would narrow the abandonment of Maynard Road from the entire road to a roughly 240 foot portion where there are no residents.

The Town Council voted to abandon the entire road in 1995, after the owners of a small shopping center at the intersection of Routes 163 and 82 filed a request with the town asking to abandon "a small portion" of the road abutting the center. The abandonment has resulted in a loss of town services such as snow plowing.

The town meeting is required by state statute. Council Chairman Joseph Jaskiewicz said that the council will conduct a final vote on the matter after the town meeting.

Maynard Road resident Lynda Jean, who has fought to bring her and her neighbors’ concerns to the town’s attention for more than 10 years, thanked the council during the public comment period of its meeting Monday for sending the resolution to town meeting.

“Very good,” she interjected after the vote on Monday.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
