Boat fire in New London under investigation

New London — A small boat was badly damaged and two adjacent boats suffered minor damage Friday after a fire broke out in a boat docked at Shaw’s Cove.
Responding to reports of the fire and following a large of plume of smoke to the scene, New London Fire Battalion Chief Marc Melanson said the fire was well underway when firefighters arrived.
Quick work to douse the flames helped save the boats docked nearby, Melanson said, though two boats suffered some damage due to heat and flame exposure.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The boats were docked near Capt. Scott’s Lobster Dock. Police blocked motor vehicle traffic into Hamilton Street while New London firefighters tackled the fire.
